I just started reading The Genesis of Shannara series. (I'm only on Chapter 9 so no spoilers please ;)) I know this community isn't very active, but has anyone else read this book yet? I find it fascinating. I stopped reading for a long time (a few years at least, shocking, even to myself) and trying to catch up on all branches of the Shannara books.

If you wish to discuss any other books, please feel free, I might not have read them yet though :)

Well, it looks like no one's posted in here for a while, so I guess I'm here to change that? Anyway, I run the Shannara fansite The Shannara Files and I've been in the mood to make some wallpapers for it recently (you can find ones I've made already here, though only the last one is even remotely recent). But yeah, I was looking to make some quote-based wallpapers (since there's a lack of high-res Shannara images out there so quotes are easier to do), and I was wondering if anyone had any quotes they liked that they could share? I posted this question on the Terry Brooks forums but no one replied, so I'm forced to think that no one there can apparently come up with a quote they like from one of their favorite authors. :/ I'm hoping the LJ community, however small, will be more useful...? Thanks a lot in advance!

Has anyone read, or started, this yet? Impressions? thoughts? The reviews I've gotten thus far have been less than positive, to put it mildly. I'd love to know what you all think!

Just wanted to drop this community a quick note and say "Hi!". After reading the "Shannara" and "Heritage" series' as a kid I took a bit of a hiatus from reading Terry Brooks. What a mistake! A few weeks a go, I happened to notice the new "Genesis" series at a local Barnes & Noble and knew I had to get back into his work. I just finished the "Word & Void" series (awesome!) and am looking forward to getting into "Genesis". I'm in my last quarter of grad school, which might not leave me a lot of free reading time, but I'll figure it out. I'll also need to read the other books that follow "Heritage" too. I can't wait!

Just FYI, The Elves of Cintra is available signed by Terry Brooks from The Signed Page. You do have to pay full price + $9.95 shipping for a total of $36.90, which is approximately $20 more than if you pre-order through Amazon.

Also, Brooks will be touring the East coast in September, so you might get to see him in person.

I have successfully converted my boyfriend to the wonder of Terry Brooks and he was searching for stuff about the books when he came across this on Wikipedia;
The film rights to the book series were optioned in 2007 by Warner Brothers. Dan Farah of Farah Films & Management brought the project into the studio and will produce. The studio is out to directors and plans to be in production by end of 2008.

A search of Dan Farah revealed that he was working on the Elfstones of Shannara.
Does anyone else have any more information on this because I'm really confused as to why he would be starting in the middle of the series.

Brooks has released the first chapter of The Elves of Cintra, book two of Genesis of Shannara.

From the newsletter:
Dear Readers,

As you know from reading ARMAGEDDON'S CHILDREN, the ending left you hanging in midair. Literally. Even though I publish on a regular yearly schedule, each book coming out right around the first of September, I realize that in this case I am asking a lot of you to wait an entire year.

So to compensate for the wait and the series of cliffhangers I left you with last September, I decided to offer a post of the first chapter in the next book, THE ELVES OF CINTRA, a little early. While this chapter doesn't resolve everything, it does offer insight into what happened to Hawk and Tessa and what lies ahead for Logan Tom. I appreciate your patience with me on letting this series unfold over three books, and I hope that in the course of your reading you will come to agree with me that segmenting the story as I did was the best approach.

Wishing you all a good 2007,

Terry Brooks

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Josh. I found this community today and thought I would jump in and see if I could get to know some more Shannara Fans. Terry Brooks is my favorite author, and the Shannara Series is my favorite series that he has written.

Hm..a little about me.

Favorite Shannara book: Elfstones of Shannara
Favorite Druid: Tay Trefenwyd
Favorite Non-Druid: Jair Ohmsford
Favorite Enemy: Isle Witch (even though she's not an enemy anymore :p )

Well, that's just a little info on my favorites from Shannara. If you want to know anything else, just ask! If you want, you can post a comment listing your favorites. I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks.

Hi all.
I just located this community while on a Google search for something entirely different. (g) However, I've been a fan of the Shannara series for a few years now, especially the original trilogy. I still need to read the High Druid books, in fact, but for various reasons haven't had a chance to really get a good crack at them.

I do have a question, however, and I realize it may seem a bit odd to most of you. I'd love to find some good fanfiction based more or less on the original Sword trilogy, and featuring Allanon as a main character. Is there such a thing, or am I completely crazy? Anyway, I'll go ahead and close for now,but I look forward to conversing with you all in future, particularly about the upcoming novels.

Hi everyone,
I've been a fan of the books for a while and after discovering some of my lj friends were readers of Terry Brooks' creations I thought I'd have a look if there was a community for fellow fans. I first discovered Shannara when I found the trilogy edition of Jerle Shannara in my uni union in the bargain box for £5, so unfortunately I haven't read them in order. I've read Sword and I'm nearing the end of Elfstones at the moment, but I haven't read any of the other books so I know I have quite a few to get through!
Well, if you want to know anymore about me then you can have a look at my journal, my userinfo has pretty much everything you'd want to know.
It's great there is a community and that it's active, hope to catch you around.

Hi all, I just recently restarted reading my Shannara books. Starting with First King of course. What I'd like to know is can someone tell me the full order of titles there are now. I have First King, Sword, Elfstones, Wishsong, Scions, and Druid. I know Elf Queen and Talisman follow. But what comes next, I noticed book 3 of High Druid just release this past September. Thanks

Who has finished the new book? I’m not sure if it was released in the US the same date as it was here in the UK? I think I heard someone say it was going to be released later.

”Spoilers”Collapse )

Also something else that I have wondered about, Quickening is described as having black eyes, do you guys think they mean the whole eye is black or just the Iris? I usually just imagine it as the Iris, she’d look rather freaky if it wasn’t and she was supposed to be incredibly beautiful so I just can’t imagine her eyes being totally black.

Last thing, has anyone come across any decent Shannara related fanart? Most of the stuff I have come across well.. it sucks. Yet there is amazing fanart for The Wheel of Time etc. The Shanara series seems so neglected sometimes.

It's the moment we've all been waiting for -- Straken's release date! I, for one, will be dragging my shannara-fan father out to Barnes and Noble around noon today, hopefully. Just be nice to your local bookstore clerks and spread the word about Terry Brooks.

In anticipation of discussions on the book, I feel like I should ask that all discussion go under a cut, even if it does not contain Straken spoilers. Some people in this community may not have even begun reading the trilogy yet, and it would be a shame to spoil the surprises for them. If you don't know how to use lj-cut, just ask, I'll be happy to tell you.

Super thanks, and happy reading!
